We were obviously sad to lose Joe to NYC after Edinburgh (he’s safe and sound, by the way), but we are now thrilled to be able to announce that we have found a new Musical Director for the Lady family. Every time we say goodbye to a member of the team we find someone new who brings a different kind of skill, creativity, personality and spirit to this ever-changing family; we feel so lucky to get to work with such a diverse group, and we’re proud of the adaptability of the act and the company.
We all really enjoyed meeting and auditioning Hayden and we think he is going to be a great addition!
Here’s the ‘official’ blurb:
Hayden Barltrop is an experienced all-round musician who has been performing since he was very young. As an accomplished pianist, saxophonist, singer, songwriter, composer, teacher and accompanist, he has contributed extensively to Sydney’s music industry. With significant experience in jazz, pop, classical, modern music and music theatre, Hayden has been highly sought after both for his compositional and arrangement skills, and also for his talents as a performer and director.
He has just finished his studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, majoring in Composition, and has worked under the guidance of Australian composers such as Nigel Butterley, Paul Stanhope, and Matthew Hindson. He has been involved in a total of 17 local musical productions since 2003, both as a lead cast member and musical director. He was commissioned in 2012 to write a piece for Sirens, Australia’s most prominent all-girl big band, which will premiere early 2013. Hayden’s pop duo ‘kaChing!’ performs his original songs at venues around Sydney, and has been hailed by industry peers as an act to look out for. In his spare time, Hayden works as a music teacher on Sydney’s North Shore, both privately and in schools.
